Individualized assessment to support your child’s growth and potential

Better understand your child’s ability and potential

Most families come into the assessment process with a main concern for their child, such as reading challenges, attentional difficulties, or anxiety. While the main concern may be the most pressing matter, it is not always the only challenge. As such, it is important to look at your child as a whole person. This includes exploring a variety of factors, including their development, academics, emotions, social skills, etc., as well as different domains of cognitive functioning. By doing so, we can better understand your child’s unique mind, how they learn, and why they may be struggling. Dr. Webb strives to provide a comprehensive overview of your child through examining their development in an array of domains.

Your assessment with Dr. Webb will provide data, insight, guidance, and recommendations.

Children at any stage of development may struggle with emotional dysregulation, and this can manifest as defiance, anger, opposition, school avoidance, and rapid shifts in emotion. A thorough assessment is often helpful in clarifying underlying factors which impact a child’s difficulty to regulate emotions.

Emotional Dysregulation

Common symptoms of depression in children include persistent irritability, sadness, guilt, low self-esteem, and hopelessness. Some children may experience thoughts of suicide or self-harm.

Symptoms of anxiety vary and may include frequent worrying, difficulty trying new things, a fixed mindset, difficulty separating from caregivers, and persistent fears.

Mood disorders in children are often misdiagnosed as attentional problems (e.g., ADHD), and differentiating between mood and neurodevelopmental differences is imperative for specifying effective treatment recommendations.

Mood Disorder

Learning Difference

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that impacts a child’s executive functions such as sustained attention, concentration, organization of thoughts, impulse control, planning, and organizational skills.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Twice-exceptional (2E) children, identified as gifted with an additional learning difference like ADHD or dyslexia, may encounter challenges such as heightened sensitivity, anxiety, compulsivity, or over-excitability. These factors can potentially impact their academic performance.

Gifted children, though unique in their experiences, often share common attributes. These may include quick learning, enhanced creativity, increased curiosity, and heightened sensitivity. Gifted children may easily grasp new concepts, display imaginative talents, exhibit insatiable curiosity, and demonstrate emotional sensitivity.

Our Process

Pursuing a comprehensive evaluation for your child involves several steps:

    • Dr. Webb will review the submitted inquiry form and reach out for a 15-minute, no-obligation phone consultation to determine if she is a good fit for your child.

    • The parent intake interview is virtual and approximately 60-90 minutes. During this appointment, Dr. Webb will gather further details about your child's history, your concerns, and clarify the goals of the evaluation.

    • 5 to 7 hours of face-to-face testing with Dr. Webb, split over two separate days

    • Find our recommendation on what to tell your child about the assessment and more frequently asked questions here.

    • Dr. Webb will distribute standardized questionnaires to parents, caregivers, and educators.

    • Dr. Webb will review pertinent medical and school records (e.g., IEP or 504 plans, therapy notes, etc.). When appropriate and indicated, Dr. Webb will consult with your child's providers and educators to gather further information.

    • Approximately 4 weeks after the evaluation, Dr. Webb will meet with the parent(s) to discuss the findings of the evaluation. The written report is made available within 48 hours of the feedback session.

    • Young adults are offered an individual feedback session (approximately 30 minutes) which allows for Dr. Webb to present the findings in a more age appropriate manner and answer all questions.
