Neurodevelopmental Evaluations
Mapping Cognitive and Developmental Growth
Understand and Support Brain Development
A baby’s brain at birth is only about 25% of the size it will develop into. It doubles to 50% in the first year and 90% in five years. Neural pathways develop quickly during this time, enabling crucial skills like connecting sensory information, developing coordination, and regulating emotions.
Neurodevelopmental evaluations for children ages six and up help clarify cognitive, emotional, and behavioral development.
These evaluations identify areas where a child may need additional support and provide insights into their unique learning and developmental needs. By understanding these aspects, parents and caregivers can implement strategies to enhance their child’s academic success, social interactions, and emotional well-being.
Using neurodevelopmental evaluations allows us to track and support brain development, ensuring that any areas of vulnerable development are addressed early and effectively. These evaluations can help shape a child's future cognitive abilities, guiding them toward a successful and fulfilling life.

How Are Neurodevlopmental Evaluations Performed?
Your child’s neurodevelopmental evaluation will vary slightly, depending on the questions you have and the behaviors and other concerns that indicated a need for testing. You can help your child prepare for their evaluation by walking through the overall process with them as outlined below:
-
You can book a free, no-obligation introductory phone call with Dr. Webb directly on our website, or if you prefer, submit a contact form and we’ll help you schedule a time.
During this brief, 15-minute conversation, we’ll hear about your child, answer any questions you may have, and explore whether a comprehensive evaluation is the right fit for your family.
-
We’ll start with a virtual parent intake interview, usually lasting about 60–90 minutes. During this time, we’ll talk with you about your child’s history, your questions and concerns, and what you hope to gain from the evaluation. When it’s helpful, your child can join part of this conversation, so we can hear their perspective too.
-
In almost all cases assessments are scheduled over two separate sessions, during which your child will complete a variety of learning, thinking, and problem-solving activities. Because each evaluation is completely individualized, exact timing can vary, but total testing time is usually about 5–7 hours. We move at a pace that feels comfortable so your child can do their best—slowing down and taking breaks as needed.
Caregivers and teachers will also receive questionnaires to help us see your child’s strengths and challenges from multiple perspectives.
If you’d like support getting your child ready for testing, we can talk you through simple preparation tips, or you can read our recommendations here.
-
All the assessments, questionnaires, medical details, academic records, and other information gathered will be carefully reviewed.
If needed, Dr. Webb may reach out to parents or educators to gain further insight.
-
About 4 weeks after the assessment sessions are completed, Dr. Webb will meet with parents to review findings and diagnoses as well as answering questions. Within 48 hours of this final session, she will provide a complete written report. For adolescents and teens, Dr. Webb may also provide an individual 30-minute feedback session to answer any questions they have.
